| When the forty-seven retainers of the late Lord Asano began their attack on Lord Kira’s mansion in 1701 to avenge their master's death, Kobayashi Heihachiro was sleeping at home nearby. Disguising himself as a maid, he rushed to defend his lord. In this print Kobayashi faces the overwhelming forces of the attackers with desperate courage, but was eventually killed. |
