Polychromed beds became popular in the Baroque period in Spain and Mexico. Scenes depicted varied from floral and geometric motifs to pastoral and idyllic settings to religious images. Depicted on the headboard are St. Anthony, Our Lady of Guadalupe and St. Francis. On the footboard are St. Joseph, St. Isidore the Farmer, and St.Raymond the Unborn, patron saint of childbirth and women in labor.
