Moon on the Sumida River

June 1891
Mizuki Tatsunosuke (1673-1745) was a famous kabuki actor who specialized in female roles.  One evening, as the moon rose above the Sumida River, he composed this poem, “Cherry trees blossom by the Sumida river; boats fade from view in the gathering dusk at Sekiya as I view the moon.”
