Chofu village moon (Chofu sato no tsuki)

Chofu was the name of a village beside the Tama River in Musashi Province near Edo. A famous poem describes the sound of villagers beating cloth beside the river in the moonlight, “At Tatsukuri, morning dewdrops lie in shining strings on cloth spread out for bleaching; Jewel River village.” |
