Akashi Gidayu

April 1890

Akashi Gidayu was a general under Akechi Mitsuhide.  Remorseful for his part in the defeat at Amagasaki, he committed suicide after writing this poem, “As I am about to enter the ranks of those who disobey; ever more brightly shines the moon of the summer night.”
