According to Chinese legend, the Herdsman and the Weaver stars were lovers who were separated by the Emperor of Heaven and placed at different ends of the Milky Way. They were only allowed to meet on the seventh evening of the seventh month of each year. A celebration of the lovers’ meeting is still celebrated every year during the Tanabata Festival. |
